Beyond the Pulpit – C&S Reacts to Trump’s Threat

The Cherubim and Seraphim Movement Church Worldwide (Ayo Ni O) has described the threat by the US President on alleged genocides against Christians as a sensitive matter which is beyond churches and their leaders.

Speaking with journalists on the alleged silence of church leaders on the matter, on the sideline of the 2025 Annual Conference and Convention of the church, the Director of Mission, Special Apostle Moses Ademola Popoola, said that the conversation should be handled at the governmental level rather than from the pulpit.

Popoola, who said that President Trump was free to express his views, added that it was not in the place of religious leaders to respond.

“The American President has the freedom to talk. But as religious persons, many of us cannot engage ourselves in such discussions. One must be knowledgeable enough to know what to say. The Nigerian government is there to reply to him.

He clarified that the matter, though sensitive, should be handled at the governmental level rather than from the pulpit. “Although the issue may appear to have a religious angle, President Trump is not speaking as a head of a church. He is speaking as a president, and he should be replied to by a president too”, he explained.

Popoola added that he would only respond publicly if a religious leader made such remarks. “If a religious leader says anything on that matter, then I can come out to reply as a religious person myself”, he said.

The cleric urged spiritual leaders across Nigeria to intensify prayers for the nation rather than engage in divisive commentary. “Yes, Nigeria is going through difficult times, but no foreigner will help us fix our problems”, he said. “We must play our part, talk to our people, and be sensible with what we preach”.

The Cherubim & Seraphim Movement Church Worldwide (Ayo Ni O) also appealed to President Bola Tinubu to intensify efforts toward ending insecurity and alleviating economic hardship.

The church also urged Nigerians to remain steadfast in faith and national unity.

In his keynote address, the Spiritual Father and Chairman of the Cherubim & Seraphim Movement Church Worldwide (Ayo Ni O), His Most Eminence, Prophet (Dr.) Emmanuel Adewale Abiodun Alogbo, said Nigeria was showing signs of progress but still grappling with persistent socio-economic challenges and insecurity.
