As the world celebrates International Women’s Day 2026, Representative Bamidele Salam has called for renewed commitment to empowering women and girls, emphasizing that societies flourish when opportunities, resources, and leadership spaces are intentionally given to women.
This year’s global theme, “Give to Gain,” highlights the powerful idea that investing in women’s advancement through education, mentorship, opportunities, and justice creates lasting benefits for families, communities, and nations.
In a statement released on Sunday, the federal lawmaker described women as the backbone of social progress and national development, noting that their resilience, creativity, and leadership continue to shape a more inclusive future.
“International Women’s Day is not only a celebration of the extraordinary achievements of women; it is also a reminder of the responsibility we all share to create a world where women and girls can thrive without barriers,” Salam said.
He noted that the “Give to Gain” theme is a call to action for governments, institutions, and individuals to invest deliberately in women’s empowerment.
“When we give women the tools to succeed quality education, access to economic opportunities, representation in leadership, and protection of their rights, we gain stronger families, stronger economies, and stronger nations,” he added.
Representative Salam paid tribute to Nigerian women who continue to excel across sectors including politics, education, entrepreneurship, healthcare, agriculture, and community development.
According to him, their determination and ingenuity have played a crucial role in advancing democratic values and economic growth across the country.
He also urged policymakers and stakeholders to intensify efforts toward policies that promote gender equality, protect women from discrimination and violence, and expand opportunities for young girls to realize their full potential.
“Giving women a voice, visibility, and equal opportunity is not charity, it is an investment in the future. The progress of women is the progress of society.”
Salam reaffirmed his commitment to supporting initiatives that empower women and girls, stressing that meaningful development cannot be achieved without their full participation.
As the world marks the 115th anniversary of International Women’s Day, he called on citizens to embrace the spirit of generosity, collaboration, and solidarity embodied in this year’s theme.
“Let us all resolve to give more our support, our respect, our resources, and our advocacy so that together we can gain a more just, inclusive, and prosperous society.”
He concluded by congratulating women across Nigeria and the world for their courage, achievements, and enduring contributions to humanity.
“Happy International Women’s Day to all the remarkable women shaping our present and inspiring our future.”
