A 35-year-old man was rescued by a team of Mobile Policemen on Wednesday after a mob in the Okumagba area of Warri South Local Government Area, Delta, accused him of stealing a keyboard from a church.
The suspect was subjected to severe mob justice, with his attackers placing a motor tyre around his neck and parading him through the streets before the police intervened.
Witnesses described the brutal scene, noting the man’s bloodied head and multiple injuries inflicted by the angry crowd.
The mob had prepared to set the suspect ablaze before the police arrived and transported him to the Police “B” Division.
The police have promised to extract information about the suspect’s alleged accomplices, and investigations into the incident are ongoing.
The church where the keyboard was stolen has not been identified.
