DSS Clarifies Abduction Report, Arrests Officer Over Alleged Misconduct

The Department of State Services (DSS) has clarified reports alleging the involvement of one of its personnel in the abduction and defilement of a minor, confirming the arrest of a serving officer over alleged misconduct.

In a statement issued on Friday, signed by the Deputy Director, Public Relations and Strategic Communications, Favour Dozie, the Service said it had been drawn to media reports accusing a DSS staff member, identified as Ifeanyi Festus, of abduction, defilement of a minor and abuse of office.

According to the statement, the Department has no record of any employee bearing that name.The Service disclosed that a serving officer, identified as Ifeanyi Onyewuenyi, is currently in custody and under investigation for allegedly forcefully converting and marrying a female identified as Walida Abdulhadi.

“For clarity, the Service has no record of above named in its employment.However, it is hereby confirmed that, an active staff, Ifeanyi Onyewuenyi, who is suspected to have forcefully converted and married one Walida Abdulhadi ‘f’, has been arrested and is currently being investigated.

“It must be stressed that, such acts are against our regulations and laid down code of conduct. As such, outcome of the investigation will be made public, please”, the statement concluded.
