Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun state has commended members of the House of Representatives, Public Accounts Committee for their role in promoting accountability and transparency in the management of public funds.
The governor gave the commendation on Monday while receiving members of the committee at his office in Abeere, Osogbo.
Adeleke particularly praised the chairman of the committee, Bamidele Salam, describing him as a performing lawmaker who has taken the activities of the Public Accounts Committee to a new level through consistent efforts at protecting federal public accounts.
He noted that Salam, who represents Ede/Egbedore/Ejigbo Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, has distinguished himself not only through legislative duties but also through intervention projects that have positively impacted his constituency in areas such as education, roads, health and human empowerment.
“He is not only delivering in the realm of legislative duties; he is equally a frontliner in the implementation of several intervention constituency projects in education, roads, health and human empowerment. Our federal constituency is feeling his impact and his top ranked presence as a true servant of Ede/Egbedore/Ejigbo federal constituency at the House of Representatives”, he said.
The governor also emphasised the need for credible elections, stressing that free and fair polls remain fundamental to sustaining Nigeria’s democracy.
“For us in Osun state, August 15 is a critical phase for national democratic evolution. As the last major election before the general elections of 2027, Osun is in the eyes of the nation and the world. We therefore must get it right by enforcing free and fair polls.
“As a democrat, I am forever willing and submissive to the will of Osun people. I have served them since 2022 and I will soon go back to them to seek their support for a second term. I strongly believe I already have the nod of my people based on our performance and our inclusive approach to governance and politics”, he added.
Earlier in his address, the Deputy Chairman of the committee and member representing Akwanga/Nasarawa Eggon/Wamba Federal Constituency of Nasarawa State, Hon. Jeremiah Umaru, said the delegation was in the South-West for a five-day strategic training and oversight engagement.
Umaru explained that the programme was aimed at strengthening the capacity of committee members and improving their effectiveness in carrying out oversight responsibilities.
He however, added that the committee had already held similar engagements in Lagos, Ekiti and Ondo states before arriving in Osun, noting that the visit to Governor Adeleke was to formally inform him of the committee’s presence in the state and to appreciate the efforts of the Osun government in delivering development to its people.
