Osun State Government has disclosed its readiness to introduce an identification system for commercial motorcyclists operating within the state in order to check crimes and the influx of bad elements into the State.
The Commissioner for Transportation in Osun State, Hon. Sesan Oyedele, who made the disclosure on Wednesday while speaking during a current affairs program ‘Frank Talk’ on Rave Fm, added that the identification card and jackets is necessary in order to control crimes being associated with motorcyclists and the influx of commercial motorcyclists in the state.
He noted that this will enable the Government to differentiate registered commercial motorcyclists from criminal elements, who are using motorcycles to operate.
According to him, “The jackets and identity cards will enable government have an accurate data of commercial motorcyclists in the State which will help us attend to their welfare and enhance security.
“I want to assure residents of Osun State that the issue of jackets and identity cards for commercial motorcycle riders is to enhance security of both motorcyclist and passenger. We need to have a data base of all motorcyclists in the State for our own good, we need to be able to monitor them.
“The present administration in the State will do everything possible to ensure safety on our roads.
Oyedele urged motorists, motorcyclists and residents to always comply with the rules and regulations guiding road traffic, stating that safety on the road is a joint task for all.
