O’HIS holds fourth quarter providers’ forum, increases capitation

The Osun Health Insurance Scheme (O’HIS) has announced an increase review of its capitation payment to N700 per enrollee, with assurance of further increment soon.

The announcement was made during the Fourth Quarter Service Providers Forum Meeting held on Wednesday at Staff Development Centre, Abeere in Osogbo. capital.

The meeting brought together medical directors, desk officers, and health insurance stakeholders from accross the state.

Speaking with newsmen during the meeting, the Executive Secretary of Ohis, Dr Rasaq Akindele, said the agency has recorded significant improvements in service delivery since the last providers forum.

“After the last providers forum meeting, there has been improvement in the care of enrollees. We have fewer complaints now, and many people are expressing gratitude and appreciation. There has been significant improvement from the last time till today,” he stated.

Akindele added that the agency decided to increase the capitation rate in response to the current economic realities.

“We know there’s a need for us to increase what we pay as capitation, considering the present economic situation. We have increased it to N700 per enrollee for now, and we plan to raise it further in the shortest possible time,” he assured.

He, however advised that healthcare providers should reciprocate the gesture by showing more commitment and diligence in delivering quality care to enrollees.

Also speaking, Dr Akinpelu Ayodeji Desk Officer for the Basic Health Care Provision Fund commended the Ohis coverage and the scope of services offered to beneficiaries.

“From the presentation today, it’s clear that both primary and secondary services are well captured. Primary services such as malaria, typhoid, urinary tract infections, and other basic health issues are all covered. We expect all service providers to deliver these services to enrollees,” he said.

In her words, Dr Dare Folasade, a Consultant Psychiatrist at the State Specialist Hospital, Asubiaro, Osogbo, described the forum as an avenue for knowledge sharing and service improvement.

“This meeting helps us stay updated on new developments within OHIS. We’ve learned that some packages we thought were not part of the scheme are actually available. This will improve service delivery in our hospital, and we appreciate OHIS and the state government for their continuous efforts,” she said.

Another provider, Dr Olatunji Odebunmi appealed to the government to review the capitation further, noting that rising drug prices have affected healthcare operations.

“As providers, we are running at a loss because drug prices have skyrocketed. We urge the government to further review the capitation upward,” Odebunmi pleaded.
