Osun Defender’s News Story On Abandonment of Unity Estate, Ido Osun; Fake and Deceitful – Osun Gov’t

  • The act of bringing the Adeleke’s family relationship to a failed contract, awarded by Gboyega Oyetola is a gross mischief
  • Government urges the affected community to be patient while the issue is being resolved

Osun state government has viewed with shock and concern a newspaper story published in the Monday, 9th of June ,2025 edition of Osun Defender titled “Osun Community Protests, Alleges Gov Adeleke’s In-law Of Abandoning Road After Shoddy Job.

In the content of the local newspaper story, residents of Unity Estate, Ido-Osun, were reported to have staged a peaceful protest, alleging abandonment of their road, which was awarded by the former administration of Gboyega Oyetola three years ago.

However, a press statement issued by Osun State Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Oluomo Kolapo Alimi, not only condemned the headline of the said story linking it to Adeleke as mischievous but a campaign of calumny against the performing Government of Senator Ademola Adeleke, which is deliberately woven to smear the good reputation of the Ademola Adeleke led administration.

The statement by Alimi assured that, be that as it may, Governor Adeleke’s administration will not leave any stone unturned in taking necessary steps with a view to redressing the alleged situation.

However, Alimi further reiterates that the need to set the record straight about the fake news by Osun Defender becomes sacrosanct at this time so as not to further mislead the innocent members of the public, particularly members of the affected community.

The statement by the Commissioner reads in part;

“Osun state Government under the leadership of His Excellency, Senator Ademola Adeleke is constrained to use this opportunity to state that the Government will do everything possible to bring the Contractor back to site.

“In the same vein, the allegation of bringing Adeleke’s family relationship into the failed contract is mischievous as the contract was awarded and commissioned by Alhaji Gboyega Oyetola, even though uncompleted three years ago.

“Telling the whole world in the said news story in the Osun Defender that its reporter had an interview with the state commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Oluomo Kolapo Alimi, on the alleged abandoned of over 2-kilometer road, which spans from Halleluyah Estate to the Unity Estate community, Ido Osun should be disregarded in its entirety as outlandishly fake and misleading.

“As a matter of fact, notwithstanding the realization that it was the last administration that awarded the contract, Adeleke administration in its usual magnanimity decided to continue the project with all sense of responsibility as a Government that does not believe in project abandonment.

“Governor Ademola Adeleke in line with his people oriented administration is therefore, for the umpteenth times, assuring the people of the community and the state at large, of his commitment to give the people of the state the best in terms of good and quality road projects that will outlive the present administration under his watch.” Ended Alimi’s statement just as he advised Osun Defender tabloid to always endeavour to go extra mile in carrying out thorough investigation before publishing a story as misleading as the one published on its Monday, 9th of June, 2025 weekly edition.
