…Says justice must prevail in Osun
The statement from the All Progressives Congress (APC) in response to the Appeal Court’s judgment reinstating their local government chairmen and councillors is not only misguided but a blatant attempt to distort the truth and evade accountability for their past failures.
This was contained in a statement signed by Olaimde Tiamiyu,Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker, Osun State House of Assembly on Tuesday.
The statement reads,
It is truly astonishing that the APC would attempt to paint the comments of the Honourable Speaker as “unchariable” while they are the ones celebrating a decision that reflects their own mismanagement and disregard for the rule of law. The people of Osun State are not fooled; they recognize that there is nothing in the judgment but a direct consequence of the APC’s history of incompetence and corruption during their tenure.
Let us be clear: no lies or manipulation of judgement will erase the widespread dissatisfaction that characterized their administration. The people took to the streets to demand for a better leadership, and the PDP government has responded to their cries for justice by taking necessary actions to address the failures of the previous administration. The APC’s attempts to label Mr Speaker’s response as inappropriate are nothing more than a deflection from their own shortcomings.
The insinuation that he is unqualified for his role as Speaker only reveals the desperation of the APC leadership. Rt. Hon. Adewale Egbedun position is rooted in the mandate of the people, and he will continue to advocate for the rights and needs of his constituents and the larger Osun society without fear or favour. It is the APC that has consistently undermined the democratic process in Osun State, manipulating governance for their own gain while neglecting the needs of the populace.
The kind of leadership Adewale Egbedun has proferred in the Osun State House of Assembly has completely wiped the APC’s governing style marked by arrogance and a refusal to accept accountability for their actions. Instead of engaging in productive discourse, they resort to desperate tactics and baseless accusations. Gone are the days when staff and members of the Osun Assembly are treated like slaves. The Osun State 8th Assembly under the leadership of Rt. Hon. Adewale Egbedun has raised the bar in terms of impactful legislation and the welfarism of the staff.
So, it is not only disrespectful to the citizens of Osun State but also indicative of a party like APC that is out of touch with the realities facing our communities to be insulting a resourceful young man that is committed to ensure law and orderliness at all times.
I will advise the APC to stop their political games and begin a genuine process of reflection and accountability. The people of Osun State deserve leadership that prioritizes their welfare over political posturing. Osun House of Assembly’s commitment to justice and good governance will not waver, and Egbedun will continue to speak out against the failures of the APC to respect the people and the law.
The Speaker remains focused on the issues that truly matter and will continue to work with the executive for the betterment of our communities and the state.
