The Osun State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called on the Inspector General of Police, IGP Egbetokun to take decisive action against the All Progressives Congress (APC) for its desperate and malicious attempts to mislead the public and instigate unrest through the misinterpretation of court judgments.
The ruling PDP described the APC’s latest antics as an open display of political irresponsibility and a deliberate ploy to create unnecessary chaos in the state.
In a statement released on Tuesday by its Media Office and signed by the State Chairman, Hon. Sunday Bisi, the PDP expressed deep concerns over the APC’s reckless and unfounded claims regarding the judicial process, noting that the opposition has turned itself into a political nuisance, misinforming the public with baseless legal narratives in an attempt to discredit the judiciary and disrupt the peace of Osun State.
According to Osun PDP, “It is quite disheartening to see how politics has become an avenue to display the highest level of illiteracy among the opposition party. Even in Student Union elections, the kind of ‘Yes or No’ electoral fraud orchestrated by the APC cannot stand, as the law is direct about its conduct.”
The ruling party further stated that the APC’s desperation has reached new heights, as it seeks to manipulate legal outcomes to suit its selfish interests.
The PDP accused the APC of continuously acting in bad faith by seeking judicial intervention on matters already decided upon, only to turn around and discredit the same courts when judgments do not favor them.
This two-faced approach, according to the PDP, is a clear indication that the APC is not only drowning in confusion but is also driven by an unhealthy obsession with power at the expense of democratic principles.
“But for their illogical reasoning, how does a party that is supposedly law-abiding blatantly ignore judicial precedence and still expect to be taken seriously?” the statement queried.
“The same APC that once stood before the courts in support of its illegal ‘Yes or No’ local government election is now running from pillar to post, looking for ways to derail the upcoming February 22 local government election because they know they will suffer another resounding rejection at the polls.”
The PDP emphasized that the APC’s antics are nothing but a poorly scripted excuse to boycott the upcoming election, as they are fully aware that the people of Osun State have rejected them.
Rather than face another humiliating defeat at the grassroots level, the opposition is now resorting to spreading falsehoods and inciting public unrest.
Osun PDP also called on the judiciary to take immediate action against the APC for their consistent abuse of the court process.
“A party that continuously files frivolous lawsuits with no legal standing should face appropriate sanctions. Their actions are a deliberate attempt to undermine the judiciary and erode public confidence in our legal system,” the statement read.
The ruling party further noted that the APC’s obsession with local government allocations, rather than actual governance, exposes their true intentions.
“The only motivation for their desperate actions is the local government allocation they intend to corner for themselves, just as they did while in power, without any meaningful plans for the development of Osun State.”
Furthermore, the PDP urged the APC to put its house in order rather than making Osun State a battleground for their internal confusion. “It is obvious that the APC is battling an identity crisis, unsure whether to continue their charade of false confidence or admit their irrelevance in Osun politics. But one thing is clear – the people have rejected them, and no amount of legal gymnastics can change that reality,” he added.
The PDP also called on the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSSIEC) to remain steadfast in carrying out its constitutional duties despite the APC’s distraction tactics as there is a subsisting judgment in a suit filed by APP which sacked the “Yes or No” election beneficiaries and was affirmed by the Appeal Court as it dismisses the APC appeal and query, why is the desperate opposition ignoring that judgment?
The ruling party reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring free, fair, and credible elections, urging other political parties to disregard APC’s propaganda and work towards a peaceful electoral process.
In a direct appeal to Osun citizens, the PDP urged them to stay vigilant and not fall for the APC’s lies. “The people of Osun must see through this charade. The APC’s endgame is to create political instability, but we must not allow them to succeed. Osun has moved forward under the leadership of Governor Ademola Adeleke, and no amount of mischief will reverse the progress we have made,” Hon Bisi stated.
The statement also warned the APC against further attempts to disrupt the peace of the state, noting that any attempt to incite violence would be met with the full force of the law. “If the APC thinks it can turn Osun into a state of anarchy, they are mistaken. We call on security agencies to closely monitor their activities and ensure that law and order prevail,” he warned.
Osun PDP reassured residents that Governor Adeleke’s administration remains focused on delivering good governance, regardless of APC’s distractions. The party encouraged the electorate to prepare for the upcoming local government election and vote massively for the PDP to further solidify the development agenda in Osun State.
“Osun is not for sale. Our people have rejected the APC, and that rejection will be reaffirmed on February 22. The opposition must accept their fate instead of throwing tantrums like sore losers,” the Chairman concluded.
