… As Gov Eno Reels Out More People-Oriented Projects, Programmes

It was a profound moment at Atan Offot House, the Akwa Ibom State secretariat of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), on Saturday, January 11, 2025, as the party in the state unanimously passed a declaration endorsing Governor Umo Eno as the sole candidate of PDP for the 2027 gubernatorial race. This move was made amidst ovation by a cross-section of leaders and stakeholders of the party, affirming the party’s satisfaction with the governor’s impressive performance and ongoing people-centric initiatives.

Conveying the declaration of the party, the state chairman of PDP, Rt. Hon. (Elder) Aniekan Akpan, while speaking at the traditional new visit of the governor to the party, stated that the enlarged State Executive Committee of PDP at its January 6, meeting resolved to endorse the governor. Akpan noted that Governor Eno has done the party and Akwa Ibom State proud in 19 months of delivering great dividends of democratic governance through his ARISE Agenda.

Citing Governor Eno’s strides in various sectors, the chairman noted that Akwa Ibomites have fared well under the governor, and every promise made is being sufficiently fulfilled according to the development-centered ARISE Agenda, with evident results in communities and people across the state.

“Your Excellency, it is a fact that we have all come to agree, having seen and felt your impressive performance as Governor of our dear state, that Akwa Ibom State is growing forward and upward under your leadership. We cannot fail to acknowledge your compassionate disposition, peace, and the unification of our state. On this background and many more, PDP in Akwa Ibom State unanimously endorses you as our sole gubernatorial candidate come 2027.”

Governor Eno, who was welcomed by a mass of party leaders and members, restated his resolve to increase the tempo in extending development to all communities in Akwa Ibom. He announced the state government’s plan to tour all federal constituencies for a town hall meeting, which he said will afford him the chance to interface with the people directly, keep in touch, and keep up with projects and programmes based on direct need assessment.

“We are doing a lot in the villages; there is no local government area that our project hasn’t touched. We are still on with the one project per local government area… Very soon, we will commence town hall meetings on a federal constituency basis, and we want to see unity as we visit. When we arrive, we will also empower people per local government area, particularly those who are plying their business in respective local government areas.”

“We will not tell tales of the past again, but of our ongoing strides in the present and our works towards the future. When we begin the next round of project flag-offs, you will see our progress.”

On their part, the National Women Leader of PDP, Hon. (Mrs.) Amina Darasimi, and the State Women Leader of the party, Mrs. Inibehe Silas, who spoke separately, commended Governor Eno for his outstanding achievements. They added that the women have been greatly impacted and are solidly in support of him to succeed in his administration.

In attendance at the governor’s visit were the Deputy Governor, Sen. Akon Eyakenyi; Coordinator of Office of the First Lady, Mrs. Helen Obareki; Speaker of the State Assembly, Rt. Hon. Udeme Otong; members of the State Executive Committee; Chairmen and leaders of all local government chapters of the party, among others.
