● Says APC Has Desperately Purchased Liabilities
● You cannot betray the mandate of the people and expect them to clap for you
The Osun State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party has said it watched what was advertised as a major political reception in Osun with more excitement than disappointment, noting that the event clearly fell into the category of desperate gatherings built on noise rather than genuine movements built on conviction.
“You cannot betray the mandate of the people and expect them to clap for you, because these National Assembly members were elected on the platform of our party. The people queued under the sun, and in the rain to vote for the PDP. They voted for our vision. They voted for the stability Governor Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke has brought to Osun. So, when we saw the empty spaces at that rally, we were not surprised. Osun people do not clap for opportunists; they shun pretenders.
“Let us be sincere with ourselves, if they truly commanded the grassroots as they claimed, yesterday would have been different. The turnout would have spoken louder. Instead, what we saw was a struggle to create momentum where none exists. This flop is a monument to greed, desperation, and political irrelevance.
“It is also instructive that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu chose to be in Kebbi State instead of lending his presence to this event in Osun. We believe he would have received accurate reports about the true political weight of those decamping. Decisions at that level are not accidental. When a rally is avoided at that level, it reflects the reality on ground.
“We also found it telling that not even the National Chairman of the APC deemed it fit to grace the occasion. Chief Bisi Akande did not attend, and Senator Iyiola Omisore was not officially invited. Their absentia indicates the type of leadership controlling Osun APC; autocratic and despotic. When a single person decides to do things by himself without consulting others, when a single person sees others as irrelevant and worthless, you get the kind of empty spectacle witnessed yesterday.
“For an event that was promoted as a major political gain, that absence speaks volumes. Despite having lost citizens’ confidence across Osun, APC in the state now celebrates what it thinks it has acquired. In truth, it has desperately purchased liabilities. APC welcomed expired politicians. Oyetola is APC leader in Osun; never forget he singlehandedly imposed AMBO. Now he is seeing results clearly written on the board. APC is burning away in Osun like a candle in the wind.
“The PDP isn’t bothered by their defection, politics allows freedom of association. What concerns us is the attempt to mislead the public into believing they carried the soul of Osun with them. While they did not. The soul of Osun is with the people, and the people are not commodities to be transported in buses or persuaded with inducements.
“Our members across the state are not shaken. If anything, they are more resolute. They feel betrayed, yes, but they also feel vindicated. They now see clearly that some individuals were never truly about service. They were about personal gratification.
“APC in Osun may celebrate what it believes it gained today, but time will reveal the truth. Leadership is not about numbers announced on a stage. It is about trust built over time. And trust, once broken, is not easily repaired.
“As a party, we remain focused. We are not distracted. We are not intimidated. We are grounded in the communities that matter. The people of Osun are discerning. They know who stood with them when it counted.
“Yesterday’s rally flopped not because of logistics, not because of planning, but because the foundation was weak. When you betray the people, you lose the crowd.
“And that is exactly what happened,” the party stated.
