…trains over 1000 secondary school teachers
The present administration under the leadership of Senator Ademola Adeleke has said it is serious about the implemention of good policies that will revamp the education sector in Osun state.
The Governor made this known while declaring open a 3-day training workshop for about 1,000 secondary school teachers in Osun State.
Governor Adeleke who was represented by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Education, Ms. Teniola Lanlehin said the training became necessary to help teachers be abreast of the new techniques of teaching for better results.
According to the Governor, “as we transform education in Osun state, teachers and teaching must also transform themselves, going from passive to active, from vertical and unidirectional to collaborative, from teaching answers to promoting learning based on questions and curiosity, from merely transmitting content to developing capacity, the joy and the discipline to problem solving.
“Teachers should become leaders and guides of their students through increasingly coopertive learning. For such a transformation of education in osun state, teachers must be well selected, formed and trained, equiped with proper competencies, motivated, respected and granted relative autonomy in their quest for excellence in teaching.”
He noted that the world is now experiencing a digital revolution and teaching and learning resources could become one of the most powerful tools for transforming the way in which teachers teach and learners learn.
In his remarks, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Secondary Education, Hon. Sunday Komolafe said the need for training and retraining of teachers cannot be under estimated as it necessary in enhancing the work performance and motivation of teachers in the field.
The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, Mr. Murtala Jimoh also emphasised the need for teachers to be ICT compliant as most students are now technologically savvy.
