The Senator representing Osun East in the 10th Assembly, Senator Francis Adenigba Fadahunsi, has expressed his profound devastation upon hearing the news of the ceiling collapse at the Amphitheatre of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife.
The tragic incident, which has reportedly resulted in injuries to several students, is deeply unfortunate. As a representative of the people, Senator Fadahunsi has assured that both financial and moral support will be extended from all relevant government bodies across various levels.
“It is quite unfortunate that we have received this distressing news at a time when Nigerian education is already at a critical juncture,” stated Senator Fadahunsi. “I use this medium to commiserate with the management of the prestigious OAU and the entire student body. I extend my heartfelt prayers for the swift recovery of those who have been physically affected by this incident. Additionally, I hope that the OAU community will be able to overcome this unfortunate experience promptly and refocus on their primary pursuit of academic excellence.”
Senator Fadahunsi also emphasized the need for immediate action to prevent future occurrences of such incidents. He called on relevant authorities to conduct thorough investigations into the cause of the collapse and to implement necessary measures to ensure the safety of all students and staff within the university premises.
“The safety of our students and educational facilities should be a top priority,” Fadahunsi added. “This incident serves as a wake-up call to reinforce our commitment to maintaining and upgrading our educational infrastructure. Furthermore, Senator Fadahunsi commends Gov Adeleke for his prompt action to ensure relief for the concerns and reassured the OAU community of his steadfast support.
