The People’s Democratic Party, Osun state chapter, Ayedire Local Government has stated that Dr Akin Ogunbiyi has stopped being a member since 2022.
This was contained in a statement issued and signed by Mr Salawu Isiaka Chairman, Mrs Ayankunle Bose Secretary, and Mr Yinka Asafa Youth leader on Friday.
The statement reads;
It has come to our attention that a former member, Dr Akin Ogunbiyi from Ward 5, Ayedire Local Government, officially resigned his membership from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in March 2022 to pursue his governorship ambition under the Accord Party. Despite his efforts, Dr Ogunbiyi managed to secure only 4,515 votes in the 2022 gubernatorial election, a result that did not meet his expectations and consequently did not affect the PDP’s chances of victory.
Following his unsuccessful gubernatorial bid, Dr. Ogunbiyi made overtures to return to the PDP. He approached the ward leaders with a request to reinstate his membership, hoping to rekindle his political career within the party and the state. However, his plea was met with a firm refusal. The ward leaders unanimously decided against his return, highlighting their commitment to party loyalty and integrity.
In a further attempt to re-establish his position within the PDP, Dr. Ogunbiyi sought to join the presidential campaign committee for the 2023 General Election. This move was strongly opposed by the members of the party in Ward 5, who reiterated that he was no longer a member of the party. Our opposition was clear and decisive.
It is important to emphasize that Dr. Ogunbiyi has not been affiliated with the PDP since his resignation in March 2022 and he played no return in our victory. His actions and decisions during the gubernatorial election and afterwards have clearly positioned him outside the party’s framework. The party members in Ayedire Local Government have consistently upheld this stance, reflecting their dedication to maintaining the party’s unity and strength.
Dr Akin Ogunbiyi’s journey since 2022 has seen him step away from the PDP to pursue his political ambitions independently. Despite his subsequent attempts to rejoin the party, the members and leaders of Ward 5 have firmly stood their ground, affirming that his departure marked the end of his association with the PDP.
