The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has extended heartfelt condolences to the government and people of Jigawa State, particularly the families of those affected by the tragic tanker explosion that occurred in Majia, Taura Local Government Area, on October 15, 2024.
The explosion, which happened around 11:30 pm, claimed over 100 lives and left more than 70 individuals seriously injured. Those injured are currently receiving medical treatment at various hospitals in the state.
In a statement issued by Force Headquarters on Thursday, the IGP commended the swift response of police personnel and other emergency responders in extinguishing the fire, rescuing victims, and restoring normalcy to the area.
IGP Egbetokun also prayed for the souls of the deceased and reassured the public of the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to conducting robust sensitization programs on the dangers of oil scooping and similar activities. He urged motorists and road users to exercise caution and adhere to safety guidelines to prevent future tragedies.
