Senator Francis Adenigba Fadahunsi has called on President Bola Tinubu to intervene in the Osun State political crisis, where sacked local government officials, allegedly backed by the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy Gboyega Oyetola, are attempting to forcibly take over local government secretariats.
This is despite a Court of Appeal ruling nullifying the 2022 local government elections. Fadahunsi urges the President to direct the Inspector General of Police, the Director General of the Department of State Services, and other security heads to restore order and prevent further chaos.
The Osun State Caucus of the National Assembly has condemned the actions of the sacked officials, who they say are being supported by security personnel and thugs.
They emphasize that a subsisting court judgment upholds the nullification of the election.
The Governor of Osun State, Ademola Adeleke, has also appealed to President Tinubu to restrain the Minister and prevent the security forces from being used to perpetrate an illegal takeover.
The Nigerian Labour Congress (Osun State Chapter) has directed local government workers to withdraw their services.
There are reports of violence, with PDP members allegedly being attacked by APC thugs and security personnel, resulting in deaths and injuries.
Fadahunsi has condemned the violence and reaffirmed his support for the Osun State Government under Governor Adeleke.
Signed
