A bipartisan group, named Osun Leaders of Thought has praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for demonstrating statesmanship and commitment to rule of law by rejecting pressure on him to declare a state of emergency in Osun state.
Rising from its emergency leadership meeting today at Osogbo, the group composed of top leaders from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the All Progressives Congress and other political parties eulogised Tinubu for seeing beyond narrow political interest of few of his supporters to uphold constitutional facts and Yoruba bigger interest.
The group chided some elements agitating for a state of emergency in Osun State describing them as closet enemies of Mr President who cannot see or are ignorant of the bigger goal of strengthening the President at the national level as he confronts a myriad of challenges from various parts of the country.
The statement signed by Elder Adelola Ogunlola and Chief Elumide Ajayi noted that the 41 member Leaders of Thought see the prevailing national situation as dynamic and sensitive, drumming support for the President and urging him to stay on course by ignoring paranoid politicians consumed by their selfish interests.
The group described Osun as the cradle of Yoruba nation where peace, progress and rule of law must be sustained and a state that must never be plunged into conflict and bloodshed on matters already before the judiciary.
While urging the President to shut the doors against war mongers who indirectly want to endanger his Presidency, the group also lauded Governor Ademola Adeleke for his matured handling of the Local government crisis, acknowledging that the governor’s pronouncements confirmed his respect for the Presidency, rule of law and the overall well being of the public.
The group however urged the governor to do more by paying a courtesy call on President Tinubu to brief him on happenings in Osun State, suggesting that such a visit would provide an avenue to build bridges and strengthen the emerging bipartisan trends in Osun State.
“Our group was formed in the first week of January and our goal is to pull key leaders together for a bipartisan agenda towards the future. We support both President Tinubu and Governor Adeleke for re-election in 2026 and 2027. Whatever names you call us, we are for continuity at the state and federal level. Among us are APC and PDP leaders.
“While we still operate underground, we find it necessary to issue this statement in view of current national politics. We commend Mr President for shutting down those calling for a state of emergency in Osun state. It is unnecessary and inappropriate. Those making those calls are self serving, self seeking politicians. Mr President does not need any distraction from the home front.
” We are sending an official letter to Mr President to pledge the support of the Osun people to him. We will be commending him on his matured handling of the Osun question.
” We are aware of the high level of pressure mounted on him by some elements within the APC. We are glad a good reason prevailed. Mr President listened to the voice of reason, not of war and conflict”, the group noted.
