Davido has sued Sophia Momodu, the mother of his first child, to secure full custody of Imade Adeleke, their daughter.
Davido had filed a motion through his lawyers, Olaniyi Arije and Okey Barrah, at the Lagos High Court on April 17, 2024.
The Nigerian singer is seeking a court order granting him “unfettered and unrestricted access” to Imade who is aged nine.
The case with the number “LD/1587PMC/2024″ lists Davido as the applicant and Sophia Momodu as the respondent.
The motion is supported by a 44-paragraph affidavit from Davido detailing the history of their relationship and his ongoing efforts to provide for their daughter.
Davido stated that he has been solely responsible for Imade’s education, covering all school fees and related expenses.
He added that he has also financed her living expenses, nanny fees, healthcare, insurance, and international travel costs.
“That it is on record that I have been responsible for the payment of all the school fees of my daughter to provide her with the best education possible and to meet all her educational needs without a hitch,” he said.
“I also made commitments to pay for living expenses, the fees of the nanny to our child, provide medical and health care, insurance, periodic international travel expenses and tickets.”
Davido said Momodu made specific demands of him, including a monthly payment of $800 for the nanny, totalling $19,600 annually.
He claimed that despite these financial contributions, Momodu subjected him to unwarranted cruelty and emotional distress.
Davido’s lawsuit seeking child custody follows a tumultuous history between him and Sophia Momodu.
In January, Momodu threatened to sue the singer for alleged cyberbullying and harassment.
In 2023, she revealed plans to change Imade’s surname to hers, claiming she has been both mother and father to their daughter.
