The Chairman of the Ward Congress Electoral Committees for Osun State, Hon. Dr. Samuel Omotosho, has reaffirmed the commitment of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to ensuring transparency and fairness in the ongoing ward congress across the state.
Dr. Omotosho, while addressing journalists on Saturday at the state party secretariat in Osogbo said the exercise is being conducted in 214 wards out of the 334 wards in the state due to the expiration of tenure for some ward executives.
“We are here to oversee 214 wards in Osun State for the purpose of electing executives at each ward. The positive development in Osun should not be truncated by detractors. That is why the party at the national level, through the National Executive Committee and the NWC, has ensured that everything is moving according to plan, so that the structure of the party will remain strong and continue to support the governor in delivering development,” he said.
Speaking on his impression of the congress, Dr. Omotosho described the conduct of the congress as impressive, commending party members for their enthusiasm and peaceful disposition.
“So far, so good. It’s been very impressive. We have seen the commitment of the people and the calm atmosphere. It shows that the Governor of this state has come with equity, and the people are comfortable and peaceful within. There has also been maximum compliance with party rules and regulations,” he added.
He however, emphasised the PDP’s commitment to gender equality, stating that the party remains one of the few in Africa that has demonstrated strong dedication to inclusiveness.
While addressing delegates and party members in different wards , Dr. Omotosho urged them to continue supporting Governor Ademola Adeleke, expressing his optimism that the PDP would win the next national election.
“By shall win the next National election, by God’s grace. Please keep supporting Governor Adeleke”, he noted.
Also speaking, the Osun State PDP Chairman, Hon. Sunday Bisi, explained that the responsibility of the state leadership is to provide a conducive environment for the smooth conduct of the exercise.
“Ours is to make sure the exercise is free and fair in all wards. On security, we have put everything in place. I was with the Commissioner of Police yesterday, and he has instructed his DPOs to provide adequate security. The DSS has also been fully mobilised. It is going to be hitch-free,” Bisi assured.
He added that the PDP remains a law-abiding and democratic party, unlike other opposition parties in the state.
