Cholera Outbreak: Osun First Lady seeks collective collaboration to fight the pandemic

The First Lady of Osun State, Mrs Titilola Adeleke has called on all and sundry in the state and Nigeria as a whole to join hand with the government and health practitioner in the fight against the deadly cholera disease.

Mrs Titilola Adeleke gave this advice while fielding questions from news men through telephone media chat on the outbreak and possible consequences of the disease. It is on record that cholera disease outbreak has been confirmed in some parts of the country which calls for urgent intervention to curb further spread of the disease with grave risks

Adeleke described the pandemic as an acute diarrhoeal infection caused by ingestion of food or water contaminated with the bacterium Vibrio Cholerae. According to her, It is not likely that cholera is spread directly from one person to another but by eating food or drinking water contaminated by the feces of an infected person.

She emphasized the importance of provision of safe water and basic sanitation, good hygiene practices including hand washing with soap, safe preparation and storage of food and disposal of the faeces of children appropriately, drinking water that are boiled or treated with chlorine and iodine as critical preventive measures and control of the transmission of cholera and other waterborne diseases.

While assuring the good people of Osun of government proactive interventions in arresting the spread of cholera in the state, she equally acknowledge the commitment and diligence of the medical work force in addressing this disease.

She used the opportunity to call on all indegenes and residents of Osun to be wary of the symptoms associated with cholera and report such to the nearest hospital for immediate medical attention. Above all, she charged all to take precaution and preventive measures as best way to guide against contracting cholera disease.
