Magistrate A. A. Adesanya of the Lagos State Special Offences Mobile Court in Bolade, Oshodi, has granted N200,000 bail to one Waheed Balogun, 40, who was arraigned before the court over an attack on a firefighter who was on duty in the Ikotun area of the state
This development was disclosed in a statement posted on the official X handle of the Lagos State Government on Tuesday.
The statement read, “The magistrate stated that the accused is granted release on the payment of N200,000 among other conditions, just as she adjourned the hearing till December 19, 2023, to allow all involved parties to perfect their matters.”
Balogun, in his defence, had contended that he attacked the firefighter for obstructing his tricycle/motorcycle park operations with a fire truck.
The Director of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Margaret Adeseye, stated that the agency initiated legal proceedings against the accused for an attack on a firefighter in October at 167 Egbe Road, Cele Egbe, Ikotun, Lagos.
She emphasised that the incident constitutes one of 12 assaults against operatives of the agency in 2023.
Adeseye further reiterated the LSFRS’ unwavering commitment to undertaking a comprehensive legal process to ensure justice is served and to establish a precedent that deters similar actions in the future.
