Several members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Iwo Local Government have dissolved into the ruling party, PDP in Osun State State.
The defectors were led by the former Secretary, Iwo Local Government LGEA Board, Hon. Tajudeen Lawal, popularly known as Augustine.
Speaking, during the decamping ceremony, Augustine said the good works of the State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke made him and his supporters decamp to the party.
Another decampee from the APC, Alfa Abdul-Hammed (Alfa Pupa) also said his decision to decamp to the PDP with his supporters was based on programmes of the Adeleke’s administration.
Others who led hundreds of their followers to join PDP were Hon. Sarafa Akande (Ajanasi), Dr Isiaka akande,
Hon.Taoreed Wasiu and many others.
Receiving the defectors, the chairman of the PDP in the state, Hon. Sunday Bisi who was represented by the Osun West PDP Senatorial Leader, Hon. Adesoye Oyetunde assured them of equal treatment with old members.
According to Adesoye, the PDP remains the only party that can give them the recognition and attention they deserve.
“The APC has not been able to deliver on its campaign promises to Nigerians so these our people said they cannot remain in a place with so much lies so they have come to the PDP and I assure you of equal treatment as the old members, You are welcome,” he said.
Also, assuring the decampees, the PDP chairman in Iwo local government, Alhaji Alidu Tiamiyu Adeoye assured them that the PDP would at all times ensure fairness, equity and justice for its members, irrespective of when they joined the party. He said: “Our party is open to all, even members of other parties. You have come at the right time. In PDP, we do not discriminate. Rather, we give due recognition to all members, irrespective of how long they have been members or their social standing”
Addressing the decampees, the Governor of Osun State who was represented by the Special Adviser to the Governor on political matters, Alhaji Muniru Raji further asserted that the Adelekes administration would continue to execute policies and programmes that would impact positively on the socio-economic well-being of the people, and would not disappoint party members. He urged party members to remain resolute. He further challenged the new members to ensure that more people joined the party.
In his remarks, the chairmanship candidate of the party in the coming 2025 local government election, Hon. Moshood Kabiru (Irorun) applauded the decision of decampees to join PDP, he implored them to start mobilizing for the party in making sure that all the party’s candidates coast to victory in the much approaching local government elections.
