The newly sworn-in Commissioner for Environment and sanitation, Hon. Mayowa Adejoorin has disclosed that under his leadership, he is going to mechanize refuse disposal in Osun State.
Hon. Adejoorin made this disclosure while featuring on a popular television programme in Osogbo, the state capital.
He stated that dredging of waterways are ongoing at Iwo and other areas in the state to forestall any form of flooding as it has been reported by forecasters that there is going to be flood this year.
He said; “I just resumed yesterday and I have directed our personnel who have been engaging in dredging of our waterways to be up and doing.
“This government is proactive and anything that will affect the welfare of the people, we will not toy with it.”
He called on the people of Osun to as a matter of duty be conscious about their environment, that they should desist from dumping refuse on the waterways and places that are not marked for such.
Speaking on the issue of beautification of the state, the commissioner said his ministry has plans in this regard and at the appropriate time, it will be done.
Hon. Adejoorin, however, warned those entering government forest without approval to desist henceforth. He noted, “Just yesterday that I resumed, some people were arrested for entering the forest illegally, as we speak, they are in detention.”
He urged the people of the state to continue supporting the administration of Governor Adeleke.
“This is a government of the people and we should continue to pray and support this administration for the betterment of all,” he said.
