In Furtherance of the Nigeria Governors Wives’ Forum schedule at the ongoing NIGWF/United Nations General Assembly 2023. Osun State Governor’s wife, Chief Mrs Titilola Adeleke joined other wives of the Nigeria Governors on a courtesy visit to the office of New York Mayor, Eric Adams.
The Nigeria Governor’s wife was led on the visit to Mr. Adams by the Chairperson of the forum and the Kwara state First Lady, Mrs. Olufolake Abdulrasak, there was an engaged discussion to work in synergy with the United States government strategically on the total eradication of gender-based violence in Nigeria.
While delivering her goodwill message, Mrs. Olufolake Abdulrasak urged the New York Mayor, Adams an active collaboration from the United States with the Nigerian government with emphasis on Nigeria Governors’ Wives the need to ensure that the issue of GBV becomes a thing of the past.
Gender-based violence has been a global pandemic that directly affects women with several severe consequences, it is deeply rooted in gender inequality and is one of the notable human rights violations and assaults that has endangered the lives of women physically, emotionally, and psychologically across Nigeria and the world at large.
Mrs Titilola Adeleke in her contribution, identified some of the causes of GBV as poverty, breakdown of social services, conflict and war, alcohol, and displacement from home among many other factors. She then called on stakeholders to join hands with the government and concerned agencies in bringing a permanent solution to this ugly trend.
