Don’t give up on Nigeria, strong leadership can make a difference – Osun Lawmaker Advises Youths

A member of the Osun House of Assembly representing Obokun state constituency, Hon. Adewumi Adeyemi has advised Nigerian youths not to give up on Nigeria. Emphasizing that, with strong leadership, Nigeria can overcome its challenges and achieve greatness.

Hon. Adewumi, popularly known as Irekandu gave the advise during the second edition of TheNewGenLeader”, on Saturday, in Osogbo the state capital. The meeting themed “Empowering the Next Generation of Leaders,” brought together youths from different states.

In his address,the lawmaker encouraged youths never to give up on Nigeria but instead work towards building a better future, adding that everyone that has a great vision should start somewhere and work towards making positive impact.

He said, “I will encourage youths not to give up because Nigeria can be better and it can be better by having good leadership. Let everyone go back to the basics and let’s begin to build leaders, let’s begin to encourage our people.

“If you’re a youth and you want to be the president of Nigeria, it’s not necessarily you start from being a president, you can start as a councilor, member of the house of rep, start from a place. I strongly believe Nigeria can be great” He added.

While speaking on the objective of the engagement, Irekandu explained that, his focus is to equip young Nigerians with leadership skills and knowledge necessary to become effective leaders. He emphasized that leadership is not just about occupying positions, but about taking responsibility intentionally and consciously.

“The focus of this initiative is to build leaders. I think and I know one of the major challenges we have in our nation today is that we lack strong leadership, and this is, to achieve the fact that we build leader, because whether we like it or not, we will always have leaders in positions and we want to get them prepared, we want to also have people who will be deliberate in occupying leadership positions, people that will intentionally and consciously occupy leadership positions. “I expect everyone here to go back to their different places of work or wherever they’re living and begin to replicate what is it they’ve learnt in this place, to begin to start this kind of initiative and even beyond participants, I also encourage everyone out there. This is our nation, we have to do everything within our ability and capacity to make sure we build this nation and I strongly believe by building leaders is one of the ways to go.” He noted.

Hon. Adeyemi, continued by assuring that the initiative will continue in a closed mentorship session, where questions will be aske, and he will mentor them to achieve the goal of being a very good leader.

Earlier while speaking, The Guest Speaker of the engagement, Director Communications Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario, Toronto, Mr Tomiwa Asaolu highlighted essential qualities required to become a formidable leader. According to Asaola, one of those qualities is striving for excellence in endeavors.

“We’re here to reiterate that there are couple of things to be prioritize to be able to indeed, be the formidable leader you want to be, and those things are excellence. Every leader must ensure, regardless of where you find yourself, you must strive to be the best in whatever you do.
If you want to be a leader, you must be excellent in everything you commit yourself to.” He said.

In an interview with newsmen, One of the participants, Miss Ajibami Dada Ayomide described the meeting as inspiring and educative.

“Today’s engagement is inspiring, it’s educative and it’s everything it has to be. Alot of key words has been said, most especially those key word of kitchen table and a dinning table, it’s actually took me to another sense of reasoning. The illustration is magnificent.

“Our speakers did justice to explaining what concept of good leadership and good governance is in general, most especially how our core values will be of help in building our leadership traits.” she stated
