The President of the Abuja Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI), Chief Emeka Obegolu, SAN, PhD, has officially declared open the 20th edition of the Abuja International Trade Fair (AITF), describing it as a historic milestone for the Chamber and the nation’s business community.
Speaking at the cutting of the tape to inaugurate the Fair, Chief Obegolu, SAN, PhD recalled the humble beginnings of the AITF two decades ago at the Old Parade Ground, which has since evolved into one of the most prestigious trade platforms in Nigeria and across Africa.
He noted that over the last 20 years, the Fair has remained committed to connecting businesses with rewarding opportunities, driving trade and investment, and fostering innovation. He emphasized that this year’s edition is particularly significant as it celebrates two decades of continuous impact and growth.
According to him, the Fair provides a veritable platform for showcasing products and services, expanding into new and untapped markets, forging valuable business partnerships, and keeping pace with emerging global trends.
Chief Obegolu, SAN, PhD further highlighted the increasing visibility the AITF has given to SMEs, its role in facilitating B2B, B2G, and B2C engagements, as well as its collaborations with over 40 diplomatic missions and trade promotion agencies.
Reaffirming the theme of this year’s edition, “Sustainability: Consumption, Incentives, and Taxation,” he urged exhibitors, visitors, and stakeholders to maximize the opportunities of the 12-day Fair, stressing that the platform remains a launchpad for the future of trade and investment in Nigeria and beyond.
Also speaking, the 1st Deputy President of ACCI, Prof. Adesoji Adesugba, described this year’s Fair as the largest so far, noting that the Chamber’s consistency and hard work over the past 20 years had brought it this far.
The Director General of ACCI, Mr. Agabaidu Jideani, expressed optimism that the Fair would witness vibrant business activities and attract wide participation over the coming days.
The President was joined at the cutting of the tape by members of the ACCI Executive Council, including the Vice President, ICT, Engr. (Mrs) Lawunmi Ismael; Vice President, Finance, Dr. Illiyasu Gashinbaki; Council Member, Chief Peter Ozoagu, Esq, FCArb; among others.
