INTERNATIONAL DAY OF PEACE: NSCDC holds Stakeholders’ Engagement As Ifon, Erin-Osun and Ilobu Communities Finally Embrace Peace

Traditional rulers in Osun State, Olufon of Ifon-Osun, Oba Peter Oluwole Akinyooye, the Elerin of Erin-Osun, Oba Yussuf Kolawole Omoloye and Olobu of Ilobu, Oba Ashiru Olatoye Olaniyan have pledged to end years of hostility and embrace lasting peace.

This was made known on Monday, 22nd September 2025, during the commemoration of International Day of Peace, organized by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Osun State Command under the leadership of Commandant Igbalawole Sotiyo.

In a symbolic moment that drew applause from participants, the monarchs shook hands and embraced one another, signaling a new chapter for the three neighbouring towns which have long been torn apart by communal clashes that claimed lives and stalled development.

The Executive Governor of the State, His excellency, Senator Nurudeen Jackson Ademola Adeleke represented by the Deputy Governor, Prince Kola Adewusi applauded the monarchs’ resolve to embrace peace, assuring them of his administration’s commitment to sustaining harmony and accelerating infrastructural development across Osun State.

Governor Adeleke who also commended the State Commandant of NSCDC, Commandant Sotiyo for promoting peace in the state while assuring his administration’s continued support to the command.

While delivering their goodwill messages, the traditional rulers emphasized that peace is the foundation for growth and prosperity.
They appealed to government at all levels to extend infrastructural development to their communities, noting that past crises had deprived their communities of meaningful projects and opportunities.

The State Commandant of NSCDC, CC Igbalawole Sotiyo, hailed the royal fathers for their courage and sincerity, describing the symbolic handshake and embrace as a practical demonstration of unity.
