Twenty-five members of the Osun State House of Assembly elected on the platform of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) have formally defected to the Accord, citing the need for a more stable and people centred political platform.
The development was confirmed in a statement issued by the Speaker’s Chief Press Secretary, Olamide Tiamiyu, who said the decision was reached during a parliamentary meeting.
According to the statement, the lawmakers had resigned their membership of the PDP weeks earlier.
After what was described as deep reflection and extensive consultations with supporters, political associates and key stakeholders, the legislators resolved to align with Accord.
The statement noted that the defecting members were convinced that Accord provides a more inclusive and stable platform through which they could better serve the people of Osun State.
“They emphasised the importance of identifying with a political party that reflects the values they hold dear and enables them to advance the collective interests of the people,” the statement read.
The lawmakers explained that their decision was driven by a determination to sustain development efforts across the state and strengthen governance delivery.
Following the parliamentary session, the members reportedly proceeded to the Banquet Hall where they met with Governor Ademola Adeleke and leaders of the Accord party.
The formal declaration of their defection was made by the Speaker at the meeting.
The legislators reaffirmed their support for Governor Adeleke, pledging commitment to quality representation, transparency and responsive leadership.
They also urged their supporters and well-wishers across their constituencies to remain steadfast and join them in what they described as a new political chapter.
According to the statement, the move was aimed at ensuring continuity in governance and accelerating development initiatives in Osun State.
