The ruling Peoples Democratic Party has accused the Osun State chapter of the All Progressive Congress (APC) of supporting Thor’s Explorations Limited at a time the state government is fighting to secure Osun financial interest in the Segilola Gold project.
In a statement by its State Chairman, Hon Sunday Bisi, the party commended the Minister of Mines Development, Mr Dele Alake for ignoring the negative voices from Osun APC, lauding the ministerial committee for backing the acceptance of Osun demands by the Thors management.
The party frowned at deliberate ploy by the state APC to undermine the commendable efforts of Governor Ademola Adeleke to secure Osun shareholding, payment of owed taxes and rehabilitation of our damaged and polluted environment.
“Why must we play politics with everything? Governor Adeleke did what has never happened. He challenged the Thors management to pay up what it owes the state. The Governor was not asking for gold bars like some people did in the past. He did not pursue secret self enrichment deals.
“He openly asked for what is due to Osun state. He wants Osun to benefit from her resources. He wants our destroyed environment to be rehabilitated. The governor confronted a powerful evil, all for the collective interest of Osun people.
“Sadly, the opposition APC was running all over Abuja to scuttle the efforts of the state government. We thank President Tinubu and his Minister, Dele Alake for not succumbing to the blackmail. It is a shame that Osun APC can be involved in such an unpatriotic act.
“Now that Governor Adeleke is achieving a breakthrough on the subject, Osun APC should cover its head in shame. Communities hosting Segilola must take note of who their enemies are. Osun people must remember this unpatriotic act and punish the APC more severely in future polls”, the party chief noted.
