Nigerian singer Dammy Krane has been released from police custody nearly a week after being detained for allegedly defaming his colleague, Davido.
The controversy began when Dammy Krane accused Davido of being involved in the death of their mutual friend, Tagbo, and made claims about Davido’s personal life, including suggesting that the singer was only getting married because his fiancée, Chioma, caught him cheating.
Following these accusations, Davido’s legal team demanded that Dammy Krane retract his statements within 24 hours and refrain from making further defamatory comments.
Failure to do so, they warned, would result in legal action.
Last week, reports emerged that Dammy Krane had been arrested and was facing potential criminal charges for his statements.
However, in a turn of events, Davido chose to drop all charges against him, leading to Dammy Krane’s release.
In his first public statement after his release, Dammy Krane expressed gratitude to his friend, Very Dark Man (VDM), and acknowledged that he had made statements that he regretted.
He apologised specifically for the allegations concerning Tagbo’s death and reiterated that despite their differences, Davido remains his brother.
In a video shared online, Dammy Krane said:
I want to say a big thank you to my brother, Very Dark Man. I know you all weren’t expecting it. I know there were many words that ought not to be said, I apologize for this Tagbo-death allegation and all that. Make una still remember Davido is still my brother, and we are going to find a major ground to resolve everything.
