The Western Nigeria Security Network, codenamed ‘Amotekun’ in Osun state, has conducted passing our parade for newly recruited operatives in the agency.
Recall that Sahel Standard earlier reported that the newly recruited Amotekun cadets began their three weeks of training in earlier in the month.
Speaking while inaugurating the Amotekun Cadets at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Ede, Osun state, Governor Ademola Adeleke charged Amotekun Cadets tackle insecurity in the state and keep the state safe.
The Governor further stated that it is his determination to fully secure Osun state while adding that his administration has ensured the appointment of a new leadership with vast knowledge in security operations and law enforcement so at to strengthen the Security agency.
He, also added that befitting operational headquarters for the service to serve as a coordinating point has been provided, and required tools will be equally provided.
The Governor, however, charged the new trainees to demonstrate patriotic commitment to the service, stating that they must avoid corruption and other conduct that violates the law.
“In our determination to fully secure our dear state, our administration opted to deepen the personnel structure and capacity of the security service. We ensured the appointment of a new leadership with vast knowledge of security operations and law enforcement.
“Our administration then provided a befitting operational headquarters for the service to serve as a coordinating point. I am glad to note that the new leadership designed a reform agenda that the administration is now implementing.
“Details of the reform initiative include the expansion of the total number of personnel, upgraded training in law enforcement, and expansion of operational equipment and logistics for the service. Full implementation of the plans will strengthen the capacity of the Amotekun service to fulfill its mandate.
“Today, we are gathered here to see the outcome of the implementation process. We have a new set of fully trained, operationally ready service personnel. This is the first batch of trainees. More of this training will be held in the near future.
“In line with our administration’s commitment to the security of lives and properties, I assure the leadership and the rank and file of the service that our administration is focussed on full execution of the upgrade agenda. We will provide you with the required tools to work.
“I am also glad to note that the service now has a sound legal framework. The amended law has removed loopholes in the previous enactment. Under the new legal structure, the service has a full range of opportunities to be a rewarding member of the security architecture.
“As part of legal reforms, the service is also to be considered as a beneficiary in the planned security trust fund. Once the trust fund takes off, Amotekun service will also be enabled to access logistic support, among others.
“As a security expert myself, I know your needs as an organisation, and I assure you that your requests for vehicles, bikes, and other operational equipment will be looked into immediately.
“I, however, want to charge the new trainees to demonstrate patriotic commitment to the service. You must be a dedicated anti- crime fighter. You must avoid corruption and other conducts that violate the law. You are expected to be a good ambassador of the service in your daily operation.
“To the leadership of the service, you should continue the implementation of the reform without let or hindrance. The service must be more visible in various corners of the state. You are to also clean up the internal structure of the service. You should feel free to weed out any personnel whose agenda is contrary to the mandate of the service.
“Additionally, the leadership of the service must maintain internal and external synergy. Internally, the leadership must be united to pursue the agency mandate. Your management practices must be all-inclusive and goal-oriented.
“Externally, the service leadership must ensure close synergy in operational matters with other security agencies. Amotekun service must work jointly and closely with the police, the DSS, and other security agencies. This is a must as all agencies have the same goal of crime free Osun State.” The Governor noted.
Earlier in his welcome address Chairman, Amotekun Board Chairman, Rtd AIG Wale Abass highlighted the roles of the new cadets, while assuring the state Governor that the officers will uphold the highest standards of professionalism to safeguard Osun State.
“You have been chosen to serve and protect the people of Osun State, your duty requires courage, principle, and unwavering dedication. Always remember that your primary responsibility is to ensure the safety and security of our community.
“As you step into the field, uphold the highest standards of professionalism, Integrity and respect for human rights. The people of Osun State are looking up to you for protection.
“1150 courageous operatives, we reflect not only on our own dedication to community security but also to the visionary leadership that continues to shape our great future.
“With sustained support, robust investment in security infrastructures and continuous support we shall safeguard the good people of Osun State” he noted.
