Two young men, Monday Peter, 21, and ThankGod, 17, have been nabbed by the Delta State Police Command for the murder of two individuals in separate incidents.
In a video interview released on Thursday by the Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Edafe Bright, the suspects confessed to their crimes.
Peter admitted to killing his friend, named Ifeayin Ezekiel, after a dispute over unpaid wages.
Peter claimed Ezekiel had not paid him for a job, and when confronted, a fight broke out, leading to Ezekiel’s death. Peter initially hesitated to describe the murder weapon but eventually admitted to using a knife to stab Ezekiel.
Peter said, “He gave me a job. He does not pay me money. So I invited him to another job, when he finished, he asked for his payment and I refused to pay him, stating that he owed me. So this thing caused quarrel. So we started fighting and the guy died. I use knife to stab am.”
Meanwhile, ThankGod, a 17-year-old, confessed to killing a man with a machete in a reprisal attack four days after the man had beaten his mother. He added on confronting the man on the day he had beaten his mother, a fight broke out and the man had injured ThankGod.
ThankGod, who was angry at what had happened, was told to forgive the man, however, ThankGod said he saw the man four days later and admitted to using a machete to attack the victim, cutting him. According to him, he didn’t know it would lead to the man’s death.
ThankGod said, “I go fight am (the man) as I see my mama for floor. I’ll go fight am for his house. The man use small knife cut me for hand. So them tell me to forgive the man I should leave him because he is an old man. I saw the man four days later. After I cut the man’s hand, he just jumped down from his bike and ran inside the cassava bush.”
Bright expressed sadness over the incidents, emphasizing the young age of the perpetrators. He warned young people about the dangers of uncontrolled anger and the consequences of their actions. He stated that both suspects would face charges in court.
