Suspended Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has expressed deep appreciation to President Bola Tinubu for his intervention in the political crisis in the state.
Fubara described it as a timely and stabilizing effort that allowed him and his deputy to continue in office as governor and deputy governor.
The suspended governor spoke during the May 29 event organized by his supporters under the banner of the Simplified Movement at their secretariat in Port Harcourt.
He called on his followers to show gratitude to the President, noting that without Tinubu’s mediation, the situation could have worsened
Fubara thanked his supporters and all Nigerians who stood by him during the period of political turbulence, acknowledging their loyalty and prayers.
He, however, urged them to understand that protests alone cannot resolve complex political disputes.
The suspended governor pleaded for forgiveness from anyone who may have felt disappointed in his handling of the crisis, emphasizing that his actions were guided by a desire to protect the peace and progress of the state.
He assured his supporters of a lasting peace, saying, “There is no reason why there will not be peace between me and my oga,” the governor said about the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike.
Fubara disclosed that since the President’s intervention, several reconciliatory meetings had been held, including some at Wike’s residence.
While lamenting the inability to commission new projects on a special day like May 29, Governor Fubara said he remains grateful for the solidarity shown by his supporters, especially through the recent event held in his honour.
President Tinubu suspended Fubara, his deputy, Ngozi Odu, and members of the Rivers State House of Assembly for six months following a months-long political crisis which rocked the coastal state.
