Osun State Seeks Partnership With Abdul Samad Rabiu Africa Initiative To Boost Technical and Vocational Education

The Special Adviser to Governor Ademola Adeleke on Technical and Vocational Education, Hon. Dapo Ademola-Adeshina has called on Abdul Samad Rabiu Africa Initiative to support to Technical and Vocational Education in Osun State.

He made the call during a courtesy call paid on the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of ASR Africa, Dr. Ubon Udoh, in Abuja.

This move seeks to bolster the state’s socio-economic development by equipping the youth with in-demand skills.

While emphasizing the change in the global economy, Hon. Dapo said the current economy has shifted towards valuing technical and vocational skills over traditional academic degrees.

“To think that traditional degree is the way to sustainable value in this fast-changing world is to live in deception. The cheese has moved. So, for us to catch up, we have to respond appropriately by changing the current understanding and approach to Technical and Vocational Education which are still primitive.

“In Osun, we have nine technical colleges that focus on different areas and Governor Ademola Adeleke-led administration is doing everything possible to ensure that we change the narrative. However, this cannot be possible without the support of the private sector. That is why we are seeking your support,” he said.

In his remarks, Dr. Ubon expressed the readiness of ASR Africa to support the state government on technical education, saying it is important to focus on skills acquisition and development to meet the demands of the global economy.

“I want to commend your effort in amplifying the importance of technical and vocation education in Osun. The pace of change in the world is accelerating faster than we could ever imagine. Every aspect of our lives, from technology to social norms, is constantly evolving at an unprecedented rate. It is said that the world has changed more in the last decade than it has in the previous century, and this statement rings true in the global economy.

“Your request is in line with our Social Development Objectives at Abdul Samad Rabiu Africa Initiative and I want to assure you of our support,” he said.
