As part of the activities marking the 2025 International Disability Day and the third anniversary of Governor Ademola Adeleke’s administration, the Osun Health Insurance Agency (OSHIA) has revealed a new empowerment initiative for Persons Living With Disabilities (PWDs)
The was disclosed by the Executive Secretary of the Osun Health Insurance Agency (O’his), Dr. Rasaq Akindele, on Monday during a press conference held OSHIA Conference Room, Abeere.
In his words, Dr. Akindele said the governor will empower 250 PWDs with Point-of-Sale (POS) machines and starter business support, describing the gesture as “yet another demonstration of Governor Adeleke’s compassion, inclusiveness, and commitment to uplifting vulnerable groups in Osun State”.
“You will recall that this time last year, our amiable Governor not only enrolled all persons living with disabilities to enjoy free healthcare through OHIS but also provided them with life-support gadgets ranging from ordinary and motorized wheelchairs, crutches, walking sticks, hearing aids, inhalers, infrared creams, glasses and many more. Thousands of the PWDs benefitted from that.”
While responding to journalists’ questions, the Executive Secretary of the Osun State Bureau for People Living with Disability, Dr. Ayobami Oyetunde explained details of the empowerment process. When asked about provisions for visually impaired beneficiaries who may be unable to operate a POS manually, he clarified that,
“The POS is the type that they will hang around their neck, so even if they don’t have hands, they can still operate it.”
Dr. Oyetunde, however commended the state government for its continuous support, noting that the first phase of the programme will cover 250 beneficiaries, while additional phases will follow subsequently.
