Rep demands rescue of abducted Kogi worshippers

The lawmaker representing Yagba East, Yagba West and Mopamuro Federal Constituency, Leke Abejide, had raised a motion of urgent public importance at the House of Representatives following the abduction of worshippers in Ejiba, Kogi State.

The attack, which occurred on Sunday, November 30, 2025, saw terrorists abduct several residents, including a presiding pastor, a two-week-old baby, and Mr Tuesday Omokore alongside his wife and children from Idofin Isanlu.

Abejide, whose motion was seconded during plenary on Wednesday by Hassan Shehu Hussein and Akin Rotimi Jr, decried the escalating insecurity in the Yagba axis.

The lawmaker stated that criminal attacks had become a daily occurrence, adding that the victims’ whereabouts remain unknown.

“It has become a daily occurrence in my constituency. Our people can no longer sleep in their homes, farm, or go about their daily activities,” he said.

He attributed the worsening situation to the deplorable state of the Kabba–Egbe Road, which he said had become a corridor for terrorist activities.

The lawmaker reminded the House that he had earlier pushed for a specially designed road construction model to tackle the problem.

Abejide appealed to business moguls, Aliko Dangote and Dahiru Mangal, to support the Federal Government in rehabilitating the road within two to three months, warning that failure to act could lead to a further breakdown of security.

He also urged President Bola Tinubu to suspend mining activities in the area, alleging that such operations may be contributing to the attacks.

The lawmaker called on the nation’s security chiefs to intensify efforts to rescue the abducted victims.
