Osun Democrats for Democracy (ODD) has carefully reviewed the politically charged statements issued by the so-called Congress of Progressive Youth (COPY) and finds them riddled with chronic lies, deliberate omissions, and reckless mischief. Their intervention is not driven by public interest but by partisan desperation, and we will not allow calculated falsehoods to mislead the good people of Osun State.
This was contained in a statement released by the group, signed by Adeyefa Adeyemo,Director of Operations and Public Affairs,Osun Democrats for Democracy (ODD) on Thursday.
The statement reads;
On education, COPY’s narrative collapses under basic scrutiny. The fees they referenced predate the current administration, and were part of arrangements agreed upon by stakeholders to compliment government efforts. Governor Ademola Adeleke did not invent those charges. What this administration has done, however, is inject life into major sectors abandoned by the APC’s Former Governor Oyetola led administration. Dilapidated schools have been renovated and furnished, teachers’ welfare has been restored, months of half salaries owed by the previous government have been cleared, and long-delayed promotion benefits ignored by the Oyetola administration have been implemented. These are measurable interventions, not propaganda soundbites.
Regarding the staff audit, COPY’s attempt to twist facts is both dishonest and laughable. The audit conducted by Sally Tibbot between May and August 2023 examined a payroll system inherited from the immediate past government. At that time, the Governor Adeleke administration was barely six months in office, and had not even constituted its full cabinet, let alone embarked on recruitment. If there were discrepancies uncovered, they originated from the structure left behind by the APC. ODD supports the invitation of anti-graft agencies for a thorough probe as initiated by Governor Ademola Adeleke, because transparency has nothing to fear.
On the Local Government matter, COPY’s distortion is particularly egregious. It was not Governor Adeleke who removed the APC YES or NO officials. A judgment delivered by the Federal High Court, Osogbo, on November 25, 2022, two days before the Governor’s swearing-in, nullified their tenure. Subsequent judicial pronouncements, including affirmations by the Court of Appeal in January and June 2025, reinforced that position. The question COPY refuses to answer is simple; why did the affected officials seek redress at the appellate court if no valid judgment existed against them? The truth remains that the occupation of council secretariats by APC elements lacks lawful backing.
On development and equity, the facts on ground speak louder than COPY’s noise. Under Governor Adeleke, infrastructure delivery has reached an unprecedented spread across Osun State. Dual carriageways are underway in Iwo and Ila-Orangun. Ilesa has witnessed transformative road expansion projects. A 10-span flyover now stands in Oke-Fia, while another major structure in Lameco nears completion. These are visible projects reshaping mobility and commerce. Never before has development been this evenly distributed across the state.
COPY’s outburst is nothing more than an echo of a discredited opposition struggling to stay relevant. Osun people can see the difference between noise and results. No volume of smear tactics can erase tangible progress or rewrite verifiable records.
Osun Democrats for Democracy will continue to challenge misinformation, defend facts, and stand firmly in support of accountable good governance.
