APC Members Reject Candidate Ahead of Osun Governorship Poll — Survey

A survey conducted among members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State has shown a high level of dissatisfaction with the party’s governorship candidate ahead of the August 15, 2026 election.

In statement signed by the Programme Officer, Waliu Adetokun, The survey, released by Geopolitics Survey International Limited (GSI), indicates that most respondents are not favourably disposed to the candidate and may not support the party at the poll.

Findings from the survey show that 75 per cent of respondents said the APC candidate is not acceptable, while 12 per cent said the candidate is acceptable. Five per cent of respondents were undecided.

On whether the outcome of the APC governorship primary would affect their decision, 80 per cent of respondents said it would influence how they vote on election day.

The survey also revealed that 78 per cent of respondents said they would not vote for the APC in the August 15 governorship election. Thirteen per cent said they would vote for the party, while six per cent were undecided.

The exercise was carried out between February 10 and March 10, 2026, across the nine federal constituencies in the state. A total of 590 respondents, all members of the APC, took part in the survey.

According to the report, 50 respondents were selected from each federal constituency, while an additional 20 respondents were drawn from major towns including Osogbo, Ede, Ilesa, Ile-Ife, Ila-Orangun, Ikirun and Iwo to ensure broader coverage.

Respondents were asked questions on the impact of the APC primary, the acceptability of the party’s candidate and their willingness to vote for the party.

GSI stated that the survey is the first in a series aimed at assessing party members’ positions ahead of the governorship election.

It added that subsequent surveys would focus on members of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and the Accord Party.
