INEC Extends PVC Collection Across Osun’s 332 Wards
By Waliu Adetokun, Osogbo
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has extended the collection of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) at registration area centres across Osun State to Friday, July 31, 2026, following complaints by voters and the large crowds recorded at collection centres.
The extension was announced in a press release signed by the Head of Department, Voter Education, Publicity, Gender and Inclusivity, INEC Osun State, Ariyo Rufus, on behalf of the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC).
According to the Commission, the registration area-level PVC distribution, which began on Wednesday, July 22 and was scheduled to end on Tuesday, July 28, recorded the collection of 322,822 Permanent Voter Cards, representing 62 per cent of the total PVCs available for distribution.
Explaining the reason for the extension, INEC said the decision was taken to enable more eligible voters to collect their cards in view of the challenges encountered during the exercise.
According to the statement, “Having regard to complaints and the large crowd at collection centres as well as other difficulties, the Commission has approved the extension of PVC collection at Registration Areas to Friday, 31st July, 2026, to enable more eligible voters to exercise their civic right.”
The Commission added that the extension would not affect the next phase of the exercise at the Local Government Area (LGA) offices.
“This is without prejudice to the collection of PVC at LGA level, which will now commence from 1st to 7th August, 2026,” the statement added.
INEC urged all registered voters who are yet to collect their Permanent Voter Cards to take advantage of the extension before the new deadline.
The Commission stated, “Concerned registered voters are urged to take advantage of this window and collect their Permanent Voter Cards.”
The extension comes as preparations continue for the forthcoming Osun State governorship election, with the electoral body intensifying efforts to ensure that every eligible voter has the opportunity to obtain a PVC before the commencement of voting.
