Osun APC SEC Members Reject Campaign Council List, Question Oyebamiji’s Appointment
By Waliu Adetokun, Osogbo
Some members of the State Executive Committee (SEC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State have rejected the party’s recently released Presidential/Parliamentary Campaign Council list, accusing its promoters of failing to follow party guidelines and ensure inclusiveness.
The members also questioned the appointment of the party’s 2026 governorship candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, as Director-General of the campaign council, saying the decision contradicted an earlier directive that named Governor Ademola Adeleke to the same position.
The position was contained in a joint statement signed by four SEC members, the State Publicity Secretary, Wole Adunola, Welfare Officer, Deaconess Adesola Ayangbile, Assistant Organising Secretary, Rasheed Adeniji, and Ex-Officio member, Abiola Ololade.
The officials said the newly released list excluded several members of the State Working Committee who, according to them, are statutory members of the Presidential Campaign Council.
They argued that the development raised questions about consultation and respect for the party’s established leadership structure.
“We therefore reject the list in its present form,” the statement read.
The SEC members recalled that an earlier directive had named Governor Adeleke as Director-General of the Presidential Campaign Council in Osun State, following which he inaugurated a broad-based campaign team.
They questioned why another campaign structure had emerged without any explanation on how it would work with the existing arrangement.
The officials, however, suggested that the list might be acceptable if it was meant for the parliamentary campaign rather than the presidential election.
“However, if the newly released list is intended to serve as a Parliamentary Campaign Council rather than the Presidential Campaign Council, its composition would be more understandable.
“This distinction must be clearly established to avoid confusion, duplication of responsibilities, and unnecessary friction,” they stated.
They insisted that the State Executive Committee remained an important part of the party’s organisational structure and should be carried along in the formation of a state-wide campaign council.
The four members called for an immediate review of the list, with proper consultations involving relevant stakeholders, including the party’s National Secretary, Senator Surajudeen Ajibola Basiru, and the State Director-General.
“Our position is clear: we need a campaign council that respects party structures, recognises legitimate leadership, accommodates critical stakeholders, and unites all members towards electoral victory,” the statement added.
Despite their objections, the officials reaffirmed their support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the APC, stressing the need for unity and the involvement of all stakeholders ahead of the elections.
“No legitimate stakeholder should be left behind,” they said.
Efforts to obtain the reaction of the APC leadership in Osun State were unsuccessful, as calls to the party’s spokesperson were not answered. Messages sent to him had also not received a response as of the time of filing this report.
