A suspected Boko Haram member was reportedly arrested on Sunday at the residence home of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar in Yola, Adamawa State.
The suspect, who’s name is Jubrila Mohammed, was allegedly arrested after he was seen acting suspiciously. He was however taken to the police station for interrogation, where he confessed to being a member of the terrorist group.
Mohammed disclosed to the police that he was part of a plot to bomb Atiku’s residence, as well as faculties at the American University of Nigeria, Yola, and the Modibbo Adama Central Mosque.
The suspect is said to be in the custody of the State CID of the Adamawa Police Command currently.
The development was disclosed by Reno Omokri, a social commentator and an avid supporter of the 2023 presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). He called on the police to conduct a full and proper investigation and urged the Federal Government to heighten security around Atiku.
“This incident is too serious to be treated with levity, especially with the state of the nation,” Omokri said. “This could be more than meets the eye. Nigerians need to know what is actually going on.”
He wrote on Twitter:
“Yesterday, Sunday, July 23, 2023, at about 9 PM, a man acting suspiciously was detected at Waziri Atiku’s residence in Yola. Due to his erratic behaviour, he was accosted and restrained. The suspect, Jubrila Mohammed, was immediately taken to the police station and interrogated. During his interrogation, he confessed to being a member of the dreaded Boko Haram sect. He revealed a plot to bomb Waziri Atiku’s residence, along with faculties at the American University of Nigeria, Yola, as well as the Modibbo Adama Central Mosque. The suspect is now with the State CID of the Adamawa Police Command.”
