The Chief of Army Staff (CoAS), Lt-Gen.Taoreed Lagbaja has said that the Nigerian Army is determined to overcome the challenges of the counter-insurgency operation in the Northeast under his leadership.
According to him, troops of Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK) are determined to address the problems of operations in routing out remnants of terrorists in the region.
General Lagbaja made the pledges, yesterday (Friday), in Maiduguri, Borno state, while on a two-day operational visits of Army formations, including the Maimalari Cantonment.
“We have been receiving adequate support from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Chief of Defense Staff, Maj-Gen. Christopher Musa,” he said.
Besides, he added that adequate security measures are also to be taken to overcome the security challenges facing the people in the State and across the region.
He, however, lamented the rising rates of kidnappings, banditry and the terrorists’ planting of Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) on roads and farmlands.
Lagbaja, therefore, expressed confidence that the security challenges would soon be nipped in the bud to restore peace in the affected six states.
While speaking on the operational visit, he said: “I was today briefed by the Theatre Commander, Maj-Gen. Gold Chubuisi, on the operational, administrative and other security issues.
“I am here to also physically interact with our troops so that I can have a firsthand information on the challenges affecting the various formations and units,” stating that this would enable the Army to overcome the operational challenges in the theatre of war.
He also assured that he will go round all the sector headquarters in Monguno and Damaturu among others army formations to be familiarised.
He noted that this will enable him to take necessary actions in addressing the challenges of counter-insurgency operations in Sambisa Forest and the Lake Chad region.
The General also inaugurated a 30-family corporal below quarters in a two-story block of building at the Maimalari Cantonment.
He added that the soldiers’ quarters comprise 30 units each of two-bedroom and parlour.
