Osun Speaker, Egbedun Assures Free and Fair LG Election, Condemn AGF’s “Biased Advice”

Osun Speaker Adewale Egbedun has assured Osun citizens of Free and Fair Local Government election while condemning the Attorney General of the Federation’s (AGF) “biased advice” regarding the elections

In a message released by the Speaker on Friday, he urged citizens to participate in the LG elections, stating that their involvement is crucial in shaping the future of their communities. He also cautioned political parties and candidates to conduct themselves with integrity and respect during and after the elections.

His words, “Esteemed citizens of Osun State, it is with great humility and a profound sense of duty that I address you today.

“I want to take this moment to commend each and every one of you for your remarkable patience and maturity in handling the recent challenges posed by invaders in our beloved state. Your resilience is a testament to the strength of our community and our unwavering commitment to peace.

“I would also like to take this opportunity to commend our esteemed Governor for his steadfast prioritization of the lives and well-being of our people over mere political gains. This commitment is not just a reflection of his character but is also a significant reason why the electorates hold him in such high regard. His dedication to serving the people is a shining example of true leadership.

“I want to express my sincere appreciation to our national stakeholders who have spoken out regarding the issues we face. Your support and concern for the welfare of Osun State do not go unnoticed, and we are grateful for your voices in these trying times.

“However, I must specifically address a concerning issue: the bias demonstrated by the Attorney General of the Federation in his advice to our Governor. This advice has had no impact on our commitment to ensuring a fair electoral process. It is vital to understand that our Governor does not possess the autocratic power to halt the operations of an independent electoral body, especially one that has been preparing for elections for over 300 days.

“Let me be clear: the advice given by the AGF, Mr. Fagbemi, is not only illegal but would also disenfranchise our people from exercising their fundamental right to vote and be voted for. We must not allow such autocratic advice to undermine our democracy.

“In light of these developments, I commend the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSSIEC) for their readiness to conduct the upcoming elections. Your preparedness is crucial for ensuring a smooth electoral process, and we appreciate your efforts.

“Furthermore, I want to extend my heartfelt gratitude to our security personnel, especially those who have acted with professionalism during this period of uncertainty. Your dedication to maintaining peace and order in our state is commendable, and we stand with you.

“As we approach the local government elections tomorrow, I charge the good people of Osun State to come out en masse and exercise your right to vote. Let me reiterate: the LG election will take place, and nothing will stop it. Your participation is crucial in shaping the future of our communities.

“Finally, I urge all political parties and candidates to conduct themselves with integrity and respect during and after the elections. This is a time for democracy to shine, and we must all play our part in ensuring a peaceful and fair electoral process.

“Thank you all the lovers of democracy, and may Osun State continue to thrive in unity and progress.” He prayed
