Chamber of Commerce Accuse Police Commissioner of Contempt

The Vice President, Kano Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines and Agriculture, KACCIMA, Ambassador Usman H Darma has threatened to institute a contempt proceeding against Kano state Commissioner of Police and 4 other defendants for refusing to comply with Court Injunction in the Chamber Leadership tussles.
Alhaji Darma,disclosed that a Federal High Court Order has restrained Kano Government, Police and three others from giving any effect in respect of the removal of the Kano Chamber of Commerce leadership and subsequent appointment of caretaker committee to steer the affairs of KACCIMA pending the hearing and determination of motion on notice.
Other respondents in the case are : Alh Lawan sule Garo, Ambassador Muntari Gashash and Executive Governor of Kano State.
The rest include: Attorney General, Kano State and Kano State Commissioner of Police
Alhaji Darma however lamented that police have barricaded the premises of Kano Chamber of Commerce despite the court order restraining all the defendants from giving any effect in respect of the dissolving KACCIMA Exco Members, by the Kano State Government.
He added that the Federal High Court Kano gave an order on 29th March 2022 compelling all parties to maintain status quo pending the hearing and determination of motion on notice in respect of the KACCIMA leadership.
He then appealed to the Police and all other respondents in the case to comply with the court order.
‘ You see we are law abiding citizens, when Kano State Government erroneously dissolved us we approached court and with our prayer.he said
He added that the State Government lacks legal power to dissolve KACCIMA leadership for being the part that KACCIMA has been established over 100 years ago and it is private entity”
When speaking with Police Public Relation Officer (PPRO)SP Abdullahi Haruna,on the matter as well of their action despite the court order, he disclosed that the police had taken over the premises after a security report that hoodlums will ransack the place today.
” We’re are there to protect lives and property, based on a report that some underworld are planning attacks on the Chamber.
When asked if police were served with the court order of Federal High Court, the Spokesman insist that police have been deployed at the premises to maintain law and order.
