Osun Accord Urges Understanding Over Adeleke’s Tinubu Campaign Appointment
By Waliu Adetokun, Osogbo
The Osun State chapter of the Accord has called on residents to support Governor Ademola Adeleke following his appointment as the Osun State Coordinator of President Bola Tinubu’s re-election campaign, urging them not to allow political differences to overshadow the interests of the state.
The state chairman of the party, Pastor Victor Babalola Akande, said the appointment reflected confidence in Adeleke’s ability to mobilise support across political divides.
Akande, in a statement issued on Tuesday, described the assignment as a call to service that required political maturity, mutual understanding and commitment to the interests of Osun State and the country.
He acknowledged that the appointment could raise questions among party members and residents, particularly because Adeleke belongs to the Accord while Tinubu is a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
However, he urged the people to approach the development with an open mind, stressing that political differences should not prevent cooperation on matters of national interest.
According to him, Adeleke’s new role does not change his political identity or the Accord’s commitment to its principles and electoral ambitions.
“Political differences should not foreclose dialogue, cooperation and the pursuit of shared national objectives,” Akande said.
He added that the governor’s appointment presented an opportunity to demonstrate that political leaders could work across party lines without abandoning their respective political beliefs.
The Accord chairman also said Tinubu’s re-election bid held particular significance for Osun State, citing the President’s Yoruba heritage and ancestral ties to the state.
He urged residents to appreciate the political considerations surrounding the appointment while expecting Adeleke to remain focused on governance and the welfare of the people.
Akande further reaffirmed the party’s commitment to its political identity and its plans for the 2027 general elections.
He called on Accord members and supporters to remain united and politically active, while working towards Tinubu’s re-election and the victory of the party’s candidates contesting National and State Assembly seats.
The chairman expressed confidence that Adeleke would balance the demands of his new assignment with his responsibilities as governor.
He also assured the governor of the party’s support, urging residents to respond to the development with understanding and political maturity.
