The Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal has inaugurated Sokoto Eastern Zone Development Association, SEZDA a non partisan organisation set to work with government and security to fight security challenges in 8 local government areas affected by Banditry and kidnapping.
Inaugurating the Association in Gwadabawa local government, Governor Tambuwal commended the initiators of the Association for establishing it without any political or religious differences and affiliation.
He said the state government will work closely with the association to stem the tide of insecurity for overall development of the zone and the state in general
He called on its leaders to be just and fair in conducting their activities.
He assured people in the state that soon the security challenges in the state will soon be addressed as the state governments in collaboration with federal government as well as security agents are making efforts to address the situation.
According to him, some restriction orders enforced by the state government in 14 local government to improve security situation will soon be reviewed.
Achievements
Governor Tambuwal also stated some achievements of his administration since its inception.
The feats listed by him include provision of over 700 towns and villages with potable drinking water across the 23 local government areas. This is in addition to 1.5 million litre per day of water projects provided in all the headquarters of the 23 local government areas.
Tambuwal thanked everyone who contributed in one way or the other at the launching, just as he announced the donation of N25 million from his friends and associates and also announced the donation of N100 million from the state government.
Earlier in his address, the Grand Patron of the Association and former Sokoto State Governor, Alhaji Attahiru Bafarawa, said the major objectives of organising the development was to unite people of the zone and find lasting solutions to the issues of kidnapping, Banditry and other rate of crimes.
Bafarawa commended Sokoto State Government for supporting the move stressing that government alone cannot tackle insecurity hence there is need to form the association and collaborate with government and other security agencies to help reduce the menace.
The former Governor lamented the setback caused to the zone by the activities of insecurity, but urged people of the area to support the association for the overall security and development of the zone.
Also in his remarks, the Chairman of the Association, Professor Nasir Gatawa of Usmanu Danfodiyo University, explained how insecurity affected the socioeconomic development of the zone.
He commended Governor Tambuwal and security outfits in the state for their efforts in fighting the menace, but urged them not to relent on their efforts to ensure that peace returns to the area.
Professor Gatawa also called on all meaningful individuals in the area to join hand with the association to support government and security agencies for the overall development of the zone.
The local government areas that the association covered include; Goronyo, Gada, Gwadabawa, Isah, Illela, Sabon Birni, Rabah and Wurno.
