The people of Abusoro community in Akure North local government area of
Ondo State will have now access to a Primary Health Care Centre as the
European Union and Ondo State government has opened a health center
built two years ago.
In a statement signed by Daisi Omokungbe, Executive Director of PROMAD,
said the organisation is happy about the news that the project has been
commissioned.
The statement reads: “On April 28, we received calls and messages from
the people of Abusoro community who we engaged during our project
tracking visit said the ministry had come to the community to commission
their health centre and they promised to bring in workers by in the
month of May 2022.
Omokungbe said “in March, our ‘FollowTheProjects’, a social
accountability arm of PROMAD Foundation had tracked project and reported
how the project was abandoned after the completion of works.”
“Also, in April, the organisation wrote to the European Union Delegation
to Nigeria on the state of the project and why action must be taken by
all partners that funded the project.”
“On April 13, the EU responded to our letter, commended PROMAD, and
mandated the Federal Ministry of Finance, Budget, and National Planning
as well as the Ondo State government to deliver the project to the
community,” he said.
He added that ‘FollowTheProjects’ team will follow up on the utilization
and functionality of the project by June.
“We appreciate the EU for their prompt response on the project and we
hope to work more with them in future engagements and monitoring
projects funded by them in Nigeria,” he said.
