Dr. Mohammed Wakil, a former Minister of Power, has officially joined the All Progressives Congress (APC) following his recent resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Wakil, who previously served under a PDP-led administration, announced his defection at his ward in Borno State, signaling a significant political shift in the region. According to sources close to the former minister, his decision to leave the PDP was influenced by internal disagreements and a desire to align with what he described as a “progressive and people-focused agenda.”
A seasoned politician with extensive experience, Wakil has served the country in multiple high-level positions. He is a former Majority Leader of the House of Representatives, where he played a key role in legislative coordination and national policy development.
He also served as the National Vice Chairman (North East) of the PDP, contributing significantly to party organization and strategy in the region. His tenure as Minister of Power further placed him at the center of efforts to address Nigeria’s energy challenges.
Party officials in the APC welcomed Wakil into their fold, describing his entry as a major boost to the party’s strength, particularly in the North-East. Local leaders expressed confidence that his wealth of experience in governance and public service would enhance the party’s grassroots mobilization and overall political influence.
In his remarks, Wakil emphasized the need for unity and collaboration in addressing Nigeria’s pressing challenges, including energy stability and economic growth. He called on his supporters to join him in supporting the APC’s vision for national development.
Political analysts note that Wakil’s defection reflects ongoing realignments within Nigeria’s political landscape, with potential implications for future elections.
