Police Clashed with ISWAP Terrorists, Loses Personnel in Borno

The crack team of the Borno State Police Command has clashed with Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists, losing a personnel along the Maiduguri/Damaturu road.

The policeman was killed, while the crack team repelled the terrorists at the check-point of Auno village, 25 kilometres west of Maiduguri, the state capital.

Auno was severally torched between 2018 and 2020 with the massive displacement of residents to flee to Maiduguri for safety and shelter.

Confirming the incident, yesterday (Monday), in Maiduguri, a Counter-Insurgency Expert and Analyst, Zagazola Makama, disclosed that besides the loss of personnel, about six others sustained injuries, while repelling the terrorists on Auno in Konduga local council.

According to him, the terrorists in large numbers attacked policemen at the checkpoint, yesterday, shooting sporadically to scare motorists and commenters along the road.

He however, noted that two officers on duty, engaged the terrorists in a gun duel. This, he said resulted in the killing of a policeman.

On how they were repelled, he said: “On hearing the sounds of gunshots, other personnel rushed to the scene and engaged the terrorists,” stating that this forced insurgents to withdraw with gunshot wounds.

He explained that the terrorists were believed to have maneuvered their way through a dug parapet and sneaked into the location on foot before attacking the police crack team.

“The policemen also chased the terrorists through their escaped route but could not get them shot dead,” he said.
